6 Questions You Should Ask in Job Interviews

When you head out to an interview, turn up the heat by impressing the interviewer with smokin’ hot questions about the position.

While not every question will be appropriate for each employer, it’s important to prepare a list of questions to drill the interviewer with, in order to gain an honest understanding of the position and the company. By doing this, you will be able to decide if the company is the right fit for you if offered the position.

To make sure your interview is well-done, grill the interviewer with the following questions:

1. Can you describe your company’s culture? This is an extremely important question to ask during an interview. It will help you gain insight of what it’s like to work for the company and what your experience would be like working for the employer.

2. Is there room for growth? If you want to advance your career, you need to be confident you will be able to grow with the position—not use it only as a stepping stone to a future job elsewhere. Once you find out if there is room for growth, ask yourself if you could see your career evolving with the company.

3. Is there significant turnover? If so, ask why. When you notice turnover at a company, it’s important to know the source. Is it because of the nature of the job? Is there no room for growth? Try to have these questions answered when seeking information about employee turnover. However, be sure to keep in mind to use good judgment when asking interviewers about turnover in the company to avoid crossing any lines.

4. What is the leadership style of upper management? Ask the interviewer about the leadership of the company. This will help you understand how communication is handled and how employees are valued in the office. Ask the interviewer if important messages come directly from top management or if employees are notified of news via email. Their response will be a good indicator of what the management’s relationship is like with their employees.

5. How is the success of your employees measured? Ask the interviewer if there are employee reviews or if there isn’t a review process at all. As a professional, you want to make sure your skills and experience are being utilized at your job. This will help you figure out how you will contribute to the success of the company as an employee.

6. Where do you see the company moving in the next five years?Although you should have researched the company prior to the interview, it’s a smart idea to ask about the company’s goals. This question will help you decide if the position meets your career goals and you can imagine your future with the company.

By asking these questions during your interview, you will not only learn more about the company but also you will be able to impress the interviewer with your thoughtful research. While you may not be able to apply each question to every interview, they will help you discover if a job is the right fit for you.
